The book I'm most thankful for.

As you see Beth is doing a super ginormous giveaway of 19 signed books and swag for people blogging about the book they are most thankful for. To me that changes almost daily, so today I'm going with Reckoning by Lili St. Crow. The series has finally come to an end and Dru still hasn't chosen Christophe or Graves. WTH!?!? I've been with this series for a long time and although I think the ending SUCKED I respect all the time and effort she put into this wonderful series that I've fallen in love with. Here's hoping for a spin off ;)

Destined

In Destined, the forces of Light and Dark collide as their epic struggle focuses on Tulsa's House of Night. Zoey is home where she belongs, safe with her Guardian Warrior, Stark, by her side and preparing to face off against Neferet. Kalona has released his hold on Rephaim, and, through Nyx's gift of a human form, he and Stevie Rae are finally able to be together if Rephaim can truly walk the path of the Goddess and stay free of his father's shadow. But is Zoey really safe? Does she truly know those who are closest to her? And will love win when it is tested by the very soul of Darkness? Find out what s destined in the next thrilling chapter of the House of Night series.

First off let me say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series and for some reason I think I judge it a little less harshly than I do other books. If I'm being honest this series is probably being drug out A LOT longer than it has to. Instead of coming up with one solid plot line and making it span over three or four novels P.C. and Kristin Cast have fifty different things going on and no end to the series in sight. (This is book 9 in the series). However, even though I believe this series couldve ended four books ago the story is still pretty entertaing and these characters make the books worth reading. I mean come on who wouldn't want a BFF like Stevie Rae? Or have hot guys like Stark, Eric, and Heath drooling all over them. If this was any other series, with any other characters, I believe I would have lost interest a long time ago but the characters are so relatable, loveable and entertaining that P.C. and Kristin could write ten more books and I'd still buy every one.

MY RATING: ★★★★ I really wanted to give it 5 stars but since I feel like they are really dragging this series out I had to give it 4

Enclave

"In Deuce’s world, people earn the right to a name only if they survive their first fifteen years. By that point, each unnamed ‘brat’ has trained into one of three groups–Breeders, Builders, or Hunters, identifiable by the number of scars they bear on their arms. Deuce has wanted to be a Huntress for as long as she can remember.

As a Huntress, her purpose is clear—to brave the dangerous tunnels outside the enclave and bring back meat to feed the group while evading ferocious monsters known as Freaks. She’s worked toward this goal her whole life, and nothing’s going to stop her, not even a beautiful, brooding Hunter named Fade. When the mysterious boy becomes her partner, Deuce’s troubles are just beginning.

Down below, deviation from the rules is punished swiftly and harshly, and Fade doesn’t like following orders. At first she thinks he’s crazy, but as death stalks their sanctuary, and it becomes clear the elders don’t always know best, Deuce wonders if Fade might be telling the truth. Her partner confuses her; she’s never known a boy like him before, as prone to touching her gently as using his knives with feral grace.

As Deuce’s perception shifts, so does the balance in the constant battle for survival. The mindless Freaks, once considered a threat only due to their sheer numbers, show signs of cunning and strategy… but the elders refuse to heed any warnings. Despite imminent disaster, the enclave puts their faith in strictures and sacrifice instead. No matter how she tries, Deuce cannot stem the dark tide that carries her far from the only world she’s ever known."

I was pleasantly suprised by this book. Yes, it sounded interesting but often you can't judge a book by it's description. I was captivated by Deuce and the world she lived it so much that I devoured this book in one sitting. Out of all the dystopian novels I've read this has got to be in my top three. I give this book 4/5 stars. I try not to compare books by huge blockbusters, in this case The Hunger Games but since they put on the cover "For fans of The Hunger Games" I had to. And although I fell deeply in love with this book, and the characters it just wasn't at the level of the Hunger Games which is why it got 4/5 instead of 5/5 stars. However, I might be biting my words as the series goes on, only time will tell.

Hourglass

For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn’t there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents’ death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She’s tried everything, but the visions keep coming back. So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past. Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he’s around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?"

So I literally just finished reading Hourglass by Myra McEntire and OMG! First of I was completely suprised, I didn't expect much from this book because the premise just seemed too silly and boy am I eating my words now. This book was so completely different and original I fell head over heels in love! The book was jam packed with mystery and romance I was frothing at the mouth ripping through the pages just trying to figure out how it ended!

MY RATING: ★★★★
